CARSON, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team's ninth inning rally fell short as the Otters dropped a 4-3 decision to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday afternoon in the series opener.
The Otters (19-27, 16-21 CCAA) continue their search for their 20th win to break the program's win record.
CSUMB had eight hits by eight different batters.
The Otters jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Senior
Greg Fujii led off with a double down the right line and advanced to third on sophomore
Tony Hernandez's sacrifice bunt. Junior

Randall Packard hit a RBI sacrifice fly to score the final run of the inning.
The Toros spread out single runs in the first, second, fourth and seventh innings to make it 4-2 lead going into the eighth inning.
The Otters took advantage of three CSUDH errors to close the gap to 4-3 Toros.
CSUDH's starter Shane Youngdale got himself in a jam in the final inning as the Otters had bases loaded with two outs. Michael Cruz came in to get the Toros the victory.

Scott Tully took the loss after throwing five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits.
The Otters return to the field on Saturday, May 7 for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
