HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team dropped a 10-7 decision to Colorado State on Saturday afternoon at  Chabot College.

The Otters drop to 17-20 on the season while the Rams improved to 12-16 overall.

Junior #Nikki Smart# racked up four goals while seniors #Chloe McRae#, #Katie Sowul# and #Alexandra Vespremi# each chipped in a goal apiece. Sophomore #Christina Vournas# recorded 10 saves between the posts.

After being down 1-0, the Otters scored back-to-back goals courtesy of Smart and Sowul.  The Rams answered with their own three goals before Smart put another ball in the back of the goal to end the first quarter.

It took Colorado State a bit more than a minute to extend its lead to 5-3 in the second quarter. The Otters once again closed the gap with a 5-meter goal by Smart.

Both teams scored two goals in the third quarter as the Rams held a 7-6 advantage going into the final eight minutes of play.

Colorado State once again took a two-goal lead with 5:31 remaining, 8-6.  McRae's goal less than a minute later put the Otters within one but the Rams answered with two goals to clinch the 10-7 victory.

The Otters face Cal State Bakersfield for seventh place of the WWPA Championships with a 9 a.m. start time.
