HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team sailed through its opening game of the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Tournament, pulling out an 11-2 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Friday morning.
The Otters improve to 16-18 with the win while the Coyotes drop to 8-31.
Senior #Katie Sowul# and junior #Nikki Smart# each notched three goals while sophomore #Ali Woollett# chipped in two goals. Sophomore #Christina Vournas# recorded 11 saves, racking up five in the final quarter.
The Otters jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and notched two more goals to take a 6-2 advantage into the halftime break.
CSUMB shutout the Coyotes while racking up five goals in the second half.
The Otters take on No. 1 Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. today.
