SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team dropped their home season finale 9-8 to the Seawolves of Sonoma State.

Sonoma State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first few minutes but the Otters quickly answered with a goal by #Julie Cooper# to tie it up. #Alex Vespremi#'s goal at 2:03 put CSUMB up 2-1.  The Seawolves tied the game up with five seconds remaining in the first quarter.

#Alyssa Pecora# gave the lead back to the Otters but Sonoma quickly answered with a goal of its own to tie it at 3-3 going into the halftime break.

After Sonoma scored to open the second half, #Alex Tyrrell#'s goal tied it up at 4-4.  The Seawolves scored two consecutive goals to take a 6-4 lead. #Katie Sowul#'s scored two goals in the final four minutes but Sonoma State sneaked a goal in-between to hold a 7-6 lead after three quarters.   

The Otters came out fired up in the final quarter with #Heather Penna# scoring in the opening seconds to tie the game up at 7-7.

CSUMB took their first lead of the second half when Tyrrell set up Pecora up to score to make it 8-7 Otters.

Sonoma State tied it up at 8-8 at 3:52 and scored the winning goal with just under two minutes on the board.

The Otters close out the 2010 regular season next Saturday against the Seawolves in Rohnert Park.
