HAYWARD, Calif. – Sophomore #Katie Sowul# continued to stay hot in the pool, leading the Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team to a 10-9 victory over Cal State East Bay on Sunday afternoon.
Sowul added five more goals to make 13 goals her total for the weekend. Four others scored goals for the Otters.
Cal State East Bay took an early 3-1 lead after the first quarter.
CSUMB had a breakout quarter in the following quarter, racking up six goals to the Pioneers three. The Otters held a 7-6 advantage at the break.
Junior #Alexandra Vespremi#'s shot found the back of the net to give the Otters a two-goal cushion. Sowul netted her fourth goal with 1:47 remaining and CSUEB answered with a goal in the final seven seconds of the third quarter making the score 9-7.
The Pioneers would not go away quietly, adding another goal with 3:05 on the clock. Sowul scored her final goal of the weekend at 2:11 to make it 10-8 Otters. CSUEB nabbed a goal in the final 27 seconds but were unable to stop CSUMB from recording the victory at 10-9.
