SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team fell 14-7 to No. 16 University of the Pacific on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Otter Aquatics Center.
CSUMB dropped to 3-10 on the season as the Tigers improved to 6-4 this year.
Junior #Chloe McRae#'s goal 12 seconds into the first quarter gave CSUMB an early 1-0 lead. Pacific tied the game at one goal apiece at the 6:33 mark. The Tigers scored back-to-back goals to take a 3-1 lead with three minutes remaining. Freshman #Jackie Walters# found the back of the next to cut the lead to one but Pacific struck again 17 seconds later to end the first quarter at 4-2.
Sophomore #Katie Sowul# scored the Otters only goal of the second quarter at 6:50. The Tigers racked up five to take a commanding 9-3 lead into the halftime break.
Pacific extended its lead with two goals in the third quarter as CSUMB's offense was dominant.
Trailing 11-3 entering the final frame, the Otters attempted a comeback with four consecutive goals to make it an 11-7 contest. The Tigers responded with three consecutive goals to close out the game at 14-7.
The Otters will face off against UOP again in the Santa Clara Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 10:30 a.m. CSUMB than competes against Cal Baptist University at 2:30 p.m. later that day.
