SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team dropped a nonconference game to No. 13 UC Santa Barbara, 15-7, on Thursday at Campus Pool.

The Gauchos (7-5) got on the board first with a power play goal by Gillian Morgan just 1:04 minutes into the contest.  Sophomore #Chloe McRae# countered with a goal just 50 seconds later, but UCSB's Lizzie Rouleau answered by scoring two consecutive goals. CSUMB fought back with a goal from sophomore #Nicki Smart#, but gave up another goal to Morgan just before the end of the first quarter, leaving the score at 4-2 UCSB.

The Gauchos turned up the heat in the second quarter, notching three more goals and shutting out the Otters.

In the second half the Otters were edge out by the Gauchos, 5-8.

CSUMB (3-16) competes in the Cal Lutheran Spring Water Polo Tournament on Mar 6-8.  The Otters will take on NCAA Division III No. 8 Chapman, No. 1 Pomona Pitzer and No. 7 Occidental along with Division I No. 12 Cal State Northridge, No. 5 San Diego State and Mercyhurst.
