SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team had a strong showing in the first half against No. 20 University of Maryland before being outscored 11-1 in the second, losing to the Terrapins 17-6 on Tuesday at the CSUMB Aquatic Center.

#Heather Penna# tied the game at 2-2 with two seconds left in the first quarter.

Both teams traded goals for the first six minutes of the second quarter until Maryland took a 6-4 lead on a goal by Rachel Jordan. CSUMB would cut the gap to 6-5 with another buzzer beating goal, this time by #Mandy Enriquez#.

Maryland scored nine goals in the third quarter to take a 14-5 lead.

#Nikki Smart# clinched a hat trick, scoring CSUMB's last goal of the game with 4:56 remaining. 

The Otters hosts Harvard University on Friday, March 27 at 2 p.m.
