Otters Baseball drops first game to UC San Diego, 0-4

LA JOLLA, Calif. --- Though posting five hits to the Triton's seven, the Otters failed to bring a runner home and lost the first game of their final conference series, 0-4. Five Otters posted hits to lead CSU Monterey Bay behind the plate.

CSUMB was led in batting by #Shea Davis#, #Matt DeJesus#, #Jacob Flores#, #Jayson Furia# and #Jeff Murray# all with one hit each. However the attempts at the plate could not produce a run as no more than one hit was recorded in an inning. Flores was the leader with an impressive double to right center, however with two outs on the board he was soon stranded.

The Tritons were led in hitting by Vance Albitz and Michael Benton, each with two hits. They too struggled to produce results as CSUMB's firstbaseman, DeJesus, made good work of his infielders effort, producing ten putouts at first, compared to the Triton's eleven. Albitz, Chris Franco, Tony Bonelli and Nick Burke all reached home for UCSD.

On the mound #Addis OConnor# (2-4) picked up the loss in 6.2 innings pitched, giving up all four earned runs. OConnor made three strikeouts in the 29 batters he faced. #Brian Callen# came in in the seventh to finish out the game for CSUMB making one strikeout against four batters. Kirby St. John (8-0) picked up the win for the Tritons in his seven innings pitched.

With the loss CSU Monterey Bay moves to 15-34 overall (7-26 CCAA) while UCSD moves to 40-12 (24-9 CCAA). The Otters continue the series tomorrow, first pitch is at 12:00pm.
