Second-half comeback lifts water polo team to victory

Chelsea Laning scores six goals in winning effort

STOCKTON --- Chelsea Laning scored six goals to lead the Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team in a second-half comeback to defeat University of the Pacific on Saturday.

The Otters trailed 4-1 after the first period and were still down 8-6 at halftime, but CSUMB allowed just one more goal the rest of the way. Otters Goal keeper Jenna Beer made 13 saves in the match. Pacific goal keeper Jocelyn Gray made five.

Stephanie Salvi had three goals for CSUMB, Nikki Smart had two and Christy Thompson one. Dara Tarawahara led the UOP attack with four goals. The CSUMB water polo will return to its home pool next weekend with a match against CSUMB alumni on Saturday at 10 a.m. and a match against UC Santa Clara at noon on Sunday.
