ROHNERT PARK, Calif. --- Cal State Monterey Bay finished the Seawolf Splash Women's Water Polo Tournament on Sunday with a tough 9-11 loss to Sonoma State.

The match was close throughout, with six ties and seven lead changes. #Kellie Koorndyk# scored one of her two goals with 15 seconds left in the third period to tie the game at 8. Then, less than 30 seconds into the final period, #Christy Thompson# scored to give the Otters the lead.

But Sonoma would go on to score the next three goals, the first, at the 5:14 mark, and last, at the 3:12 mark, by Laurel Stricklin, to seize the win. The Seawolves scored the first two goals of the match as well, both by Samantha Burchard

#Chelsea Laning# scored three goals with four shots for the Otters. #Nikki Smart# had the other. Goalkeeper #Jenna Beer# made 8 saves.

With the loss, CSUMB is 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the Western Water Polo Association. The Otters finished 2-1 in the tourney with wins over UC Santa Cruz (14 to 9) and Cal Lutheran (12 to 4) on Saturday. The team's next matches are at the Slugfest tournament at UC Santa Cruz on Saturday. The Otters face CSU San Bernardino at 9:10 a.m. and Colorado State at 1:20 p.m.
