CHICO, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay track and field team displayed its depth across the middle-distance events this weekend at the Chico Wildcat Invitational.
"I am happy with many of the results today," head coach
Greg Rhines said. "As we get into the season, many are well ahead of their marks from last season at this time. It is going to be a fast season."
Sophomore
Rachel Hoops scored in two different disciplines. She secured a fifth-place finish in a competitive 1,500m field, crossing the line in 4:39.55. She later returned to the track for the 400m, where she clocked a 59.30 to take seventh overall.
The women's 1,500m also saw strong pack running from
Ali Keith (4:48.98) and
Cozette Wood (4:54.92), who paced a group of 12 Otters in the event.
In the 800m,
Hannah Fish and
Ava Wettlaufer finished back-to-back with times of 2:30.51 and 2:30.57, respectively.
On the men's side,
Erik Bromley earned two points with a seventh-place finish, posting a time of 1:58.39. He led a massive contingent of ten Otter runners in the event, including
Cameron Cornforth (2:01.10) and
Jeremiah Torres (2:03.91).
Bromley also paced the Monterey Bay men in the 1,500m earlier in the day, finishing in 4:07.57. He was followed closely by Cornforth and
Angel Arciniega, who finished within a second of one another at 4:11.07 and 4:11.83.
The Otters head back to San Francisco to compete in the Johnny Mathis Invite next weekend.
