BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Led by a final round 68 from senior Colin Huang (Newport Beach/Corona Del Mar HS), the Cal State Monterey Bay men's golf team moved up to a sixth-place finish at the Western Washington Invitational Tuesday at Bellingham Country Club.

Huang's 4-under, the second-best round of the day and fourth-lowest round of the tournament by any golfer, vaulted him 19 places to 11th place. His 54-hole score of 1-under 215 led the Otters.

Sophomore Zaid Khan (Sacramento/CMASAS), playing in his first collegiate tournament, carded an even-par 72 to earn a share of 36th place at 6-over. Freshman Kash Cantrell (Benton, Ill./Benton Consolidated HS) and junior Alex Cooke (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) also shared 36th place, with Cantrell contributing a 74 to the Otter scoreline Tuesday.

Sophomore Nick Savano (Windsor HS) gave the Otters their final scoring round with a 76.

Ryan Vest (Univ. of British Columbia-Okanagan), Jacob Torres (Hawaii-Hilo), Fisher Ransom (Vanguard Univ.) and Denby Carswell (Simon Fraser Univ.) finished in a 4-way tie for first place at 7-under.

Simon Fraser led a quintet of local programs at the top of the team leaderboard at 14-under. All of the top five teams hailed from northwest Washington or British Columbia.

CARMEL, Calif. — In other Otter golf news from Tuesday, three of CSUMB's four individuals playing at the RCA Electric Invitational at Quail Lodge earned Top 10 finishes.

Sophomores George Goff (Orlando, Fla./Gardner-Webb Univ.) and Simon Germain (Lyon, France) finished fourth and fifth at 2-under and even par respectively. Goff shot 2-over 73 in the final round while Germain carded a 74.

Freshman Max Canny (Berkeley HS) earned his first Top 10 finish at the collegiate level by placing eighth at 5-over for the 54-hole event.

Although the four Otters played as individuals, they would have won the event as a team with a combined score of 19-over. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges took the official team title.

CSUMB will take next week off from competition before returning to action by hosting the 2025 Otter Invitational Oct. 13-14 at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside.
