STOCKTON, Calif. —
Cal State Monterey Bay carded a 6-under 282 in Friday's second round to move up six places at the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Regional on the Reserve at Spanos Park course.

Freshman Ben Christian Dexter, Mo./Dexter Senior HS) led the charge with a 5-under 67 Friday. That tied the best round of his young collegiate career, carding seven birdies along the way.

Junior Alex Cooke (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) also put a red number on the board Friday by going 2-under. Freshman Zaid Khan (Sacramento/CMASAS) and junior George Goff (Orlando, Fla./Gardner-Webb University) posted CSUMB other scoring rounds, shooting 72 and 73, respectively.

Cooke will enter play Saturday in 14th place at 2-under for the tournament. Christian is tied for 30th at even-par 144.

The Otters still need to make up nine strokes in the final round to qualify for the NCAA Championship Tournament later this month, but they gave themselves a chance by vaulting from 20th place to 14th place in one round. They'll need a similar effort in Saturday's final round to make that leap.
