Huang, Cantrell In Top 10 At Wildcat Classic

MARYSVILLE, Calif. — Senior Colin Huang (Corona Del Mar HS) and freshman Kash Cantrell (Benton, Ill./Benton Consolidated HS) placed themselves in the hunt after 36 holes at the Chico State Wildcat Classic Monday at Peach Tree Golf and Country Club.

Huang and Cantrell combined to post four red numbers, with Huang ending the day in fifth place at 5-under 139 and Cantrell in 10th a 4-under. Cantrell shot 3-under in the morning while Huang went 4-under in the afternoon round.

The duo has CSUMB alone in sixth place in the 14-team field at -8 (568). Host Chico State owns a commanding lead through 36 holes at 28-under. Cal State East Bay is in second at 17-under with Western Washington in third at 12-under.

Freshman Jacob Florek (Belleville, Ill./Mascoutah HS) and Grand Canyon University transfer Alex Cooke (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) also finish play Monday in the red. Flores shot 1-under in each round for a share of 24th place while Cooke went 72-71 to finish the day at 1-under.

Chico's Naoki Easterday sits at 9-under 135 and will enter the final round with a 1-stroke lead of Nathaniel Frink of Cal State East Bay. Huang will have five strokes to make up if he hopes to capture the individual title.

The Wildcat Class will conclude with 18 holes Tuesday at Peach Tree. Follow the live scoring on Scoreboard.
