SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State Monterey Bay senior defender
Jennifer Limon (San Jose, Calif.) was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2024 Academic All-America® women's soccer team, the organization announced. Limon was tabbed to the second team.
The program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
To be considered, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50% of the team's games at their position. No student-athlete is eligible until they have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
Limon carries a 3.97 GPA in social and behavioral science. She was a CCAA All-Academic and Fall All-Academic selection in 2023.
Limon became the first Otter in program history to be named the CCAA Defender of the Year. The San Jose native started all 19 matches and logged a team-high 1,676 minutes. Limon tallied three points on a goal and an assist.
The Otters began the season with only two goals allowed in their first seven matches. They would go on to allow only 12 in 19 games. As a team, CSUMB showcased a .63 goals against average. The 12 goals allowed ranked second in the conference.
CSUMB allowed one goal or less in all but two matches. Limon scored her lone goal against UC Merced and handed out an assist the next game at San Francisco State.
CSUMB paced the conference with six CSC All-District selections as her sister
Yohanna Limon,
Jasmine Guardado,
Nylah Mirshafiei,
Ariana Palomo and
Audrey Reyna nabbed the honors earlier in the month.
The Otters reached the CCAA Tournament for the first time in team history, taking down Cal State LA by penalty kicks in the opening round to advance to the semifinals.
