Emily Schmit Honored as WWPA Co-Coach of the Year

Schmit wins the award for the first time in her career, coming off of trip to WWPA Championship Game

VISTA, CALIF. – After their historic run at the WWPA Water Polo Tournament, CSUMB Water Polo Head Coach Emily Schmit has earned WWPA Co-Coach of the Year Honors for the first time in her seven years at the helm of the Otter program.

Schmit led her team to the WWPA Championship match, despite being the #4 seed in the western region of the conference. The Otters celebrated upset victories over host McKendree and Cal State East Bay en route to the championship match, a tightly contested bout with Biola that went the way of the Eagles.

Schmit had four Otters honored on the All-WWPA award list and four honored on the All-WWPA Tournament team.

No stranger to postseason honors, Schmit was a four time Sierra Pacific Conference Coach of the Year while at UC Berkeley, and a two time Southwest Conference Coach of the Year at Arizona.
