Kvarnrud Leads Otters To Ninth-Place Finish at Patriot

Sophomore Tilda Kvarnrud cards final round 74 to place 22nd

CARMEL, Calif. — Sophomore Tilda Kvarnrud (Mariestad, Sweden) carded a final round 74 to help No. 15 Cal State Monterey Bay move up to a ninth place finish at the Patriot Invitational Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course.

A severe storm warning with wind gusts up to 80 miles an hour in the Monterey Bay area halted play for the better part of an hour around noon. But that did little to slow Kvarnrud, whose 74 matched her best round of the season and was her second best round as a collegiate player. Only four players in the 81-player field managed a better round in horrific conditions.

Her strong final round lifted her to a 22nd place finish overall. Teammate Cathy Tong (Newport Harbor HS) scored in the 70s in all three rounds, including a 79 Tuesday, and placed 23rd overall. Zoe Offield (Stockton/Tokay HS) and Isabel Carpenter (San Luis Obispo HS) closed the Otter scoring by shooting 82 and 83 respectively.

CSUMB moved up one spot as a team Tuesday to earn a ninth place finish. NCAA Division I member Dartmouth College earned the team title. Alli Kim of Point Loma Nazarene University finished at even par 213 to take medalist honors.

CSUMB will be off until mar .31 when it begins play at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic in Goodyear, Ariz.
