CSUMB Alumna Amanda Jennings Named Head Athletic Trainer

Former Otter water polo star to lead sports medicine program

June 16, 2021

SEASIDE, Calif. — The greatest goalkeeper in Cal State Monterey Bay water polo history will backstop Otter Athletics in a new role after being named the University's new head athletic trainer. Amanda Jennings, who served as an assistant under Michael Paddack since 2017, will replace Paddack, who moved to a faculty position at Southern Oregon University.

"Amanda is a rising star in the ATC profession," says CSUMB Director of Athletics Kirby Garry (@KirbyGarry). "Her strength and conditioning background and certification put her in a uniquely qualified position to best serve and support our student–athletes across the entire spectrum of sports performance."

Jennings has served as an assistant athletic trainer at CSUMB since 2017. She also worked as a student assistant in the CSUMB sports medicine office while working towards her bachelor's in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise science, a degree she earned in 2015.

"I am so excited and grateful to be named the new head athletic trainer," says Jennings. "I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge, gaining experience and serving our student–athletes in this new role. Thank you to Kirby Garry and the entire department for believing my unique experiences are the best fit to lead the sports medicine team here at CSUMB."

After graduating from CSUMB, Jennings served as a strength and conditioning coach at Weber State while earning her master's degree in athletic training at the university. She has served as a clinical preceptor for Northern Arizona University, mentoring second year master's students, since 2018.

Jennings became a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer in 2017 and earned a certified strength and conditioning specialist credential from the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2015. She has been American Health and Safety Institute CPR/AED certified since 2017.

Jennings still ranks as the top goalkeeper in CSUMB water polo history, holding the Otter season and career records for saves, save percentage and goals against average. She has served as an assistant coach for the program since 2018.

"Amanda has strong experience as a student and staff member at CSUMB. Her kinesiology and water polo experience, combined with her experience on staff under Mike Paddack, will serve her well in this role because of her understanding of the collaborative model we have with both kinesiology and our local health professionals," says Garry.
