FULL NOTEBOOK (PDF)

SEASIDE, Calif.
— The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team made a big leap forward under third year Head Coach Isaac Williams (Eastern Oregon, '00) during the 2019–20 campaign. With the potential for three starters, nine letterwinners and three talented redshirts to return in 2020–21, Otter fans already are marking their calendars for Nov. 6 and the start of the next season.

CSUMB's 10 wins were its most since the 2015–16 season. The 10 include four wins over teams that qualified for the postseason (Academy of Art, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State East Bay and Cal State L.A.).

The Otters set the school record for made 3–point field goals (256) and ranked amongst the top rebounding teams in the CCAA, finishing No. 2 in defensive rebounding (27.1 drpg) and No. 4 overall (36.6 rpg).

START ME UP: Jahvon Johnson ended his illustrious Otter career by making 101 starts, the most in CSUMB history. He broke the record of 98 set by Brandon Ward (2010–13). Johnson's 103 career appearances rank fourth all–time. Alex Fertig (2013–16) and Joe Mitchell (2006–09) share the CSUMB record with 108 appearances.

JOHNSON MAKES HIS POINTS: Being slowed by a hamstring injury limited Jahvon Johnson to just nine points in his final two games. That leaves him as CSUMB's No. 3 career scorer with 1,224 points. He finished seven points shy of Brandon Ward (1,231) for the No. 2 spot. Alex Fertig (2013–16) owns the CSUMB record with 1,370 career points.

THE OTTER 1K CLUB: Jahvon Johnson joined an elite club on Nov. 30 by becoming the sixth player in Otter history to score 1,000 career points. Here's a list of that exclusive membership:
  • 1,370 – Alex Fertig (2013–16)
  • 1,231 – Brandon Ward (2010–13)

BOSETTI TAKES HIS SHOT: Senior Joseph Bosetti finished his Otter career with a flourish by setting the CSUMB single season record for field goal percentage at .591 (min. 50 FGM). He broke Kevin Loustale's 8–year–old record of .582.

TOOLEY TAKES HIS SHOT…FROM DOWNTOWN: Charlie Tooley made four 3–pointers in the final weekend to raise his season total to 53. With that, he joins Evan Zeller (2015 and 16) as the only players in CSUMB history to make 50+ 3–pointers in a season twice. Tooley also made 53 treys as a junior in 2018–19.

FROM DOWNTOWN, PART I: The Otters made 17 more 3–pointers in their season–ending roadtrip to San Bernardino and Pomona, giving them a school–record 256 treys for the 2019–20 season. That broke the school record of 254 made in 2017–18. In fact, the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 (242 in 2018–19) seasons for 3–point field goals in Otter history have come in the three years under Head Coach Isaac Williams.

FROM DOWNTOWN, PART II: The Otters ended the season having made multiple 3–point field goals in 170 consecutive games. The last time they didn't make a 3–pointer came seven seasons ago when they went 0–for–9 in a 65–61 loss at Cal State L.A. on Feb. 1, 2014.

A SEASON FOR THE BOOKS: In addition to the team 3–point record, 2019–20 proved to be one for the books by a number of different metrics. CSUMB's scoring average of 75.2 ppg ranks No. 6 all–time while it's rebounding average of 36.6 checks in at No. 5. Also of note, its .712 FT Pct. ranks No. 7.

THE CENTURY CLUB: CSUMB's 103–point explosion Feb. 6 at Cal State L.A. marked the first time the Otters passed the century mark since a 108–100 overtime loss at Humboldt State in 2013. They are the most points the Otters scored in any game since beating Pacifica University, 104–52, in The Kelp Bed on Nov. 11, 2012. It's the 13th time in school history that the Otters have scored 100 or more points in a game.

HOW SWEEP IT IS:  With their 76–72 victory at Humboldt State on Jan. 25, the Otters pulled off their second–ever season sweep of the Lumberjacks. CSUMB also won 76–71 in The Kelp Bed on Dec. 7. The only other time the Otters swept the Lumberjacks came during the 2013–14 season.

HOW SWEEP IT IS, PART II With wins at Cal State L.A. (103–97) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (74–72), the Otter men earned their first road sweep since defeating these same two teams on Feb. 13–14, 2015.

HOW SWEEP IT IS, PART III: With wins at Cal State L.A. (Feb. 6) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (Feb. 8) the CSUMB men and women combined to sweep a weekend roadtrip for the first time in the history of Otter basketball. It's the first time the Otters combined to win all four games in a weekend since they both defeated UC San Diego and Cal State East Bay Dec. 3–4, 2010.

AN HISTORIC NIGHT FOR FERGUSON: Andrew Ferguson's 34–point night in a Jan. 16 win over Sonoma State ranks No. 6 on the Otter all–time list for points in a game. No Otter has scored more points since Davion Berry scored 35 at Cal State Stanislaus on Jan. 21, 2011. In case you're wondering, Richard Jenkins owns the CSUMB  single–game scoring record with 57 points against Western Oregon on Dec. 15, 2006.

WE LOVE THE 80s: The 80s have been incredibly friendly territory for the Otters in recent history. With their 88–76 win over Cal State San Marcos on Feb. 20, CSUMB owns a 49–9 (.845) mark in its last 58 games when scoring at least 80 in regulation games dating to the 2007–08 season.
