OTTERS vs. BRONCOS HIGHLIGHTSSEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey bay volleyball team got one more epic performance from senior outside hitter
Jessica Malcolm (Lodi HS), but it wasn't enough to stop a solid all–around effort from playoff–bound Cal Poly Pomona as the Broncos spoiled Senior Night with a 25–21, 28–26, 25–15 win Saturday in The Kelp Bed.
The Otters said goodbye to several prolific seniors who had big nights in their Otter swan songs. No player had a bigger night than Malcolm, who put down 19 kills, seventh most in a 3-set match in Otter history. The big night left her tantalizingly short of the Otter career kills record. She finished with 1,451 as Rheann Fall retains the title by a mere three kills.
The Otters had a chance to extend this match in the second set when consecutive kills by
Anela Visesio (Seaside HS) gave them set point at 26–25. But three consecutive Bronco kills extinguished that threat and Pomona never trailed again.
In addition to Malcolm's efforts, senior
Rachel Cookus (Thousand Oaks HS) added 16 digs to her Otter single season (545) and career (1,960) records. Senior middle blocker
Victoria Clardy (Westminster/ Marina HS) had a match–high five block assists to push her Otter career records to 263 block assists and 309 total blocks.
GO OTTERS!
