SEASIDE, Calif. — In the end, the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball team couldn't shake off a slow start as Cal State Dominguez Hills kept its postseason hopes alive with a 25–10, 25–21, 20–25, 25–12 win Tuesday night in The Kelp Bed.
Dominguez Hills used big runs to put away the first two sets with minimal trouble before the Otters rallied to lead almost wire–to–wire in their third set win. But the Toros responded with runs of 7–1 and 7–0 early in the fourth set to seal the match.
Senior
Jessica Malcolm (Lodi HS) just missed a double–double by putting down a team–high nine kills to go along with 14 digs.
Rachel Cookus (Thousand Oaks HS) broke the CSUMB single season digs record by adding 17 to her total to bring her 529 for the season, surpassing the previous high of 518 by Katie Bos in 2006.
Freshman
Ciara Reistad (La Quinta HS) added a team season–high four aces while middle blocker
Victoria Clardy (Westminster/Marina HS) pushed her Otter career blocks record over the 300 plateau (304) with five Tuesday night.
The Otters conclude their 2015 season Saturday by hosting Cal Poly Pomona for a 7 p.m. match in The Kelp Bed. It will be the final collegiate match for seniors Clardy, Cookus, Malcolm,
Paige Myers and
Leana Moleta.
