SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team was forced to settle for a split in its four-game CCAA series with visiting Cal State L.A.
Entering Sunday's game with a 2-1 series lead, the Otters dropped the finale, 12-2, at the Otter Sports Complex. CSUMB's (5-10, 2-6 CCAA) offense came to an erupt halt with only five hits to CSULA's 18 including three extra base hits. In the previous three games, CSUMB racked up 48 hits.
For the first time in this series, Cal State L.A. struck first taking a 2-0 lead when Kyle Peralta hit a 2 RBI single.
The Otters cut their lead in half when junior
Brian Hamm (Pleasanton/Chabot College) led off with a triple and scored on senior
Michael Lonsdale's (Castro Valley/Chabot College) single.
The Golden Eagles pulled away with three runs in the third on four consecutive hits after Casey Ryan was hit by a pitch to begin the inning.
Lonsdale scored CSUMB's final run on a groundout by
Josh Heinz (Santa Clarita/West Ranch HS).
Every Golden Eagle notched a hit with Manny Acosta and Cody Doyle each registering three hits apiece.
CSUMB's five hits were spread out among five different Otters: Heinz, Lonsdale, Hamm,
Mark Hurley (Hollister/College of San Mateo) and
Blake Grant-Parks (Yuba City/Sierra College).
The Otters return to action in a four-game series at Chico State beginning on Friday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
