Junior David Garcia hit a walk-off single and a home run in today's wins over SF State

David Garcia's (Gilroy, Calif./Misson College) walk off single and
Jason Merjano's (San Ramon, Calif./Sierra College) grand slam led the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over San Francisco State Saturday at Otter Sports Complex. Final scores were 6-5 and 11-1.
With the two victories, the Otters have tied the program's record for wins at 21 set in Head Coach
Walt White's first season at the helm.
Junior catcher
Jessie Olson (Citrus Heights, Calif./Sierra College) went 6-for-6 on the day with two doubles and a triple. Junior right fielder
Tommy George (Elk Grove, Calif./Elk Grove HS) recorded five hits including a double and a NCAA-leading triple.
Merjano, Olson and George each tripled in game one, raising CSUMB's total to 15. George moves back into the top spot as the NCAA leader with seven.
The Otters turned six double plays in the two games combined.
Game 1: CSUMB 6, SF State 5
The Otters found themselves down 5-4 of entering the bottom of the ninth of the series opener. Merjano led off with a triple down the left line and scored on Olson's single up the middle. Two outs later and bases loaded, Garcia drove the ball through the left side to give CSUMB the victory.
CSUMB took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on freshman
Ty Morris's (Royal Oaks, Calif./North Monterey County HS) sacrifice fly.
The Gators knotted it at one run apiece on Matt Quintero homer in the fourth.
The Otters regained the lead in the sixth on a Garcia RBI which scored George, who reached base on a leadoff triple.
The Gators needed only one hit to score four-runs and take a 5-2 capitalizing on a CSUMB error and two bases loaded walks.
CSUMB cut the gap to 5-4 on Olson's RBI double and a single by George.
Junior
Jordan Helmkamp (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Saddleback College) earned his third victory of the season, throwing three scoreless innings of relief. SF State's Brenden Petrangelo took the loss in 2/3 innings of work.
Game 2: CSUMB 11, SF State 1
Senior
Danny Nelson (Morgan Hill, Calif./San Jose CC) and George hit back-to-back singles and Garcia drew a walk to load the bases for Merjano's grand slam. This marks the ninth grand slam in program history.
SF State's lone run came in the third when Dante Smith scored on a wild pitch.
CSUMB cruised to a 11-1 win on 12 hits highlighted by Garcia's solo homer in the third, his third of the season.
Freshman
Jeff Owen (Clovis, Calif./Clovis East) improved to 3-3 after giving up one run and two hits in five innings of action. He struckout five batters.
The Otters will play two nine-inning games at San Francisco State to conclude the series. First pitch is 11 a.m.
