As a Redshirt Junior in 2012: Appeared in 12 games with four starts, tossing 42.2 inning with a 3.16 ERA and 4-2 record…struck out 28 batters and walked four…picked up his first collegiate win at Cal Poly Pomona (2/18), gave up one hit in 3.2 innings of relief…first win as a starter was at Cal State East Bay (4/2), tossing 5.2 innings and gave up one earned run and struck out three batters. 

As a Redshirt Sophomore in 2011 at Saddleback College: No. 1 pitcher for the Gauchos…hosted a 6-5 record in 13 starts, 16 appearances in 91.2 innings…struck out a team-high 56 batters while walking only 14.
 
As a Redshirt Freshman in 2010 at Saddleback College: Struck out 19 batters in 35.2 innings.

High School: All-South Coast League first team selection…named to Southern Orange-County All-Star team…in 2008, he recorded a 2.23 ERA in 62.2 innings with 42 strikeouts and 17 walks…batted .397 with 27 hits including five doubles…played summer ball with Quakes Baseball Academy under the direction of John Elliot.
 
Personal: Son of Kirby and Teresa Helmkamp…has one younger brother, Brett…majoring in Social Behavioral Science.
