LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 29 Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team prevented a shutout at UC San Diego, scoring a two-out run in the ninth before falling in the series opener 10-1 Friday.
The Otters fell to 12-7 overall and 5-4 in CCAA play while the Tritons improved to 9-12, 7-6 in conference action.
Given a 4-0 lead in the fourth, the UCSD's starter Ryan Goodbrand cruised to a win. The junior right-hander worked 6.0 innings, holding CSUMB scoreless on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Closer Sean Rowan entered the game in the final inning to see the shutout bid come to an end on junior catcher

Tommy George (Elk Grove, Calif./Elk Grove HS) went 2-for-4, scoring the lone run for the Otters.
For the first time this season, the Otters were unable to record an extra base hit.
UCSD's senior first baseman Richard Seigel hit his third home run of the season, a two-run blast as the Tritons took a 4-0 lead in the fourth.
After nabbing a lone run in the fifth, the Tritons doubled their lead two innings later on six hits including a 2 RBI double by Nick La Face to make it 10-0.

Donny Medlinger (San Jose, Calif./Cal Poly SLO) picked up his first loss of the season after surrendering five earned runs in 5.0 innings of action. Medlinger walked four and struck out four before freshman
