BOX SCORE TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team dropped an 8-2 decision to Cal State Stanislaus Saturday in Turlock.
The Otters fell to 15-13 overall and 8-10 in CCAA action. The Warriors improve to 13-11, 10-8 in conference play.
Back-to-back home runs by Eli Davis and Michael Turay put the Warriors up 2-0 in the first.
In the third, Stanislaus added five runs on a sacrifice fly and a grand slam by Davis.
Davis raised his RBI total to six in the fifth when he drove in Gonsalves on a single to left field.
The Otters offense broke through in the sixth when junior
Jason Merjano (San Ramon, Calif./Sierra College) singled to right to bring home senior
Danny Nelson (Morgan Hills, Calif./San Jose CC).
In the eighth, junior
Brian Haggett (Hollister, Calif./Sacramento State) homered for the second time this season.
Senior
Aaron Appino (Rancho Cordova, Calif./Sacramento City College) through 2 1/3 innings, gave up nine hits and seven earned runs for his first loss of the season.
Merjano went 2-for-3 with a double, his 12th of the year.
For the Warriors, Davis went 4-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs.
The Otters conclude the four-game series with a doubleheader in Seaside beginning at 11 a.m.
