SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker on Friday night, falling to the Seawolves of Sonoma State, 89-86.
The Otters fall to 9-14 overall and 7-12 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action as the Seawolves improved to 9-14, 7-12 in conference play.
Sophomore #Davion Berry# led all scorers with 25 points and was perfect at the charity stripe, making 14-of-14. Senior #Warren Freeman# tied his career-best 21 points, scoring 19 in the first half. Sophomore #Brandon Ward# contributed 16 points while dishing out six assists. Sophomore
Derrick Anderson added 10 points. Freeman and Anderson each had nine rebounds.
The Otters held a 44-32 lead at the half after shooting 65.4 percent from the floor.
Sonoma State turned it on in the second half, tying the game at 70-70 on a layup by Ben Washington with 45 seconds remaining in regulation. Ward connected on all four of his free throws with Washington making only one of his two to give CSUMB a 74-71 lead with eight second on the clock. Will Olsem's 3-pointer sent the game into overtime.
With four tied scores and four lead changes, the Seawolves came out on top to take a 89-86 victory home.
Olsem led the Seawolves with 24 points and James Sandoval added 20 points.
The Otters host No. 10 Humboldt State on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
