SPOKANE, Wash. –The Cal State Monterey Bay men's and women's cross country teams conclude the 2011 campaign at the NCAA Division II Cross Country West Region Championship Meet. Continuing with the tradition of the season, the Otters made program improvements placing higher than ever recorded in it's history as a division II program.
With young rosters, Head Coach
Greg Rhines had 12 Otters run the event for the first time, including nine freshman.
The women had a final finish three places higher than the 2010 season, at 18
th place, and the men's squad two spots above the previous best, finishing 17
th.
Junior
Piper Delaney led the women as the top finisher for her eighth consecutive race, individually placing 34
th. Delaney's final time was just seconds short of her personal record, crossing the finish line at 22:38. Delaney was followed by two freshman,
Cristina Hernandez at 24:24 and
Jennie Yeaman at 24:35. Representing the senior class was
Hayley Tharp finishing 125
th, crossing the line at 24:49.
Also making his eighth appearance as the top finisher, junior
Cameron Cruse set a new school record and a personal best in the 10k finishing 78
th individually crossing the finish line at a final time of 33:51. Rounding out the top three finishers for the CSUMB men was freshman
Logan Coe (35:16) and
Karson Hayden (35:32).
