Santa Rosa, Calif. –
The Cal State Monterey Bay men's and women's cross country teams participated in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships meet finishing with eight women racing personal bests, ending up 10th overall. The men had a seventh place finish.

"I am pleased with today's performances on both the women's and men's teams,” says Head Coach Greg Rhines. “In return, we placed our highest ever in the conference meet."

On the women's side, eight of the ten Otters entered in the event had personal bests. Leading CSUMB was junior Piper Delaney (Medford, Ore./Boise State) crossing the finish line in the top 30 at 22:34 making that the new school record for the six-kilometer race. Freshman Jennie Yeaman (Escondido/Mission Hills) finished just under a minute after Delaney at 23:30. Yeaman had her best ever finishing time in her collegiate career dropping 21 seconds from her run at the Sonoma/CCAA Preview Invitational on Oct. 1.

Entering with its largest group of men, the Otters had a seventh place finish. Leading CSUMB was junior Cameron Cruse (Seaside/MPC) finishing 33rd, just shy of the top 30 crossing the finish line at 27:26. Coming in just 39 second later was freshman Karson Hayden (Hungtington Beach/Servite) through the finishing line at 28:05.

“The men stepped up today,” says Rhines. “Of the top five Otters today, three are freshmen, and that spells 'big future' for this team!"

The Chico State men's and women's teams took first place, with many individual student-athletes receiving honors.

On the women's side, Alia Gray earned CCAA Women's Runner of the Year honors, taking home the individual title with a time of 21:07.1.

On the men's side, Chico State won its tenth straight conference title, placing all ten runners in the Top 11. Adrian Sherrod earned the CCAA Men's Runner of the Year award, crossing the line at 25.39.0.

"The Otter cross country teams are young and hungry programs with very bright futures ahead of them,” says Rhines. “We are looking forward to the West Region race in two weeks."
