SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay goalkeeper
Willow Baltazar has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Otters to an unbeaten road weekend in Southern California.
Baltazar was perfect across 180 minutes in goal, recording 15 saves, two shutouts and an unblemished goals-against average as CSUMB collected four conference points with a win and a draw.
The sophomore opened the weekend with a seven-save performance in the Otters' 2-0 victory at Cal State San Marcos, helping Monterey Bay earn its first CCAA win of the season. Baltazar made five of those stops in the second half as the Otters preserved the clean sheet.
She was even better two days later at Cal Poly Pomona, making eight saves in a scoreless draw against a Bronco side that entered the match unbeaten. Baltazar turned away all eight shots on goal while facing 21 total attempts, making four saves in each half to secure the road point.
The two performances gave CSUMB back-to-back shutouts and 180 consecutive scoreless minutes to close the road trip. The Otters returned home with four of a possible six conference points and improved to 3-2-3 overall and 1-2-1 in CCAA play.
For the season, Baltazar has started all eight matches and owns 36 saves, an .818 save percentage, a 1.03 goals-against average and three shutouts in 701 minutes. She currently ranks among the CCAA's top 10 in four statistical categories, including goals-against average (1.03), total saves (36), saves per game (4.50) and shutouts (three). Her 36 saves rank second in the conference, while her 4.50 saves per game rank third.
Baltazar and the Otters return home to host San Francisco State on Thursday evening at Cardinale Stadium.
