Otters Roll Past San Francisco State for Third Straight Shutout

Baltazar makes five saves as CSUMB extends scoreless streak to 270 minutes

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay continued its impressive run of defensive form Thursday night, posting its third consecutive shutout with a 3-0 victory over San Francisco State at Cardinale Stadium.

The Otters (4-2-3, 2-2-1 CCAA) have now gone 270 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, following a 2-0 victory at Cal State San Marcos and a scoreless draw at Cal Poly Pomona. The clean sheet was CSUMB's fourth of the season.

Fresh off being named the CCAA Defensive Player of the Week, Willow Baltazar continued her strong play in goal. The sophomore stopped all five shots on target to record her third consecutive clean sheet, giving her 20 saves without allowing a goal over the last three matches.

CSUMB gave its defense an early lead when Kamryn Bubak found the net just 1:43 into the match off an assist from Ella Schug. It marked Bubak's first tally of the season.

The Otters took control offensively after halftime, outshooting the Gators 13-3 over the final 45 minutes. Jayme Gomez doubled the advantage in the 74th minute, finishing a sequence set up by Chloe Van Winkle and Naomi Tobias for her first goal of the season.

Juliana Dow put the finishing touches on the victory with 23 seconds remaining, scoring her team-leading fourth goal of the season to make it 3-0. Dow led the Otter attack with seven shots and four attempts on goal.

Monterey Bay finished with an 18-7 advantage in shots, 9-5 edge in shots on goal and 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

CSUMB has now earned seven points over its last three CCAA matches while outscoring its opponents 5-0 during the shutout streak.

The Otters remain at home and will face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Oct. 3.
