POMONA, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay capped a big Southern California CCAA road trip with its second consecutive shutout, battling unbeaten Cal Poly Pomona to a 0-0 draw Sunday at Kellogg Stadium.
After blanking Cal State San Marcos, 2-0, on Friday, the Otters once again leaned on goalkeeper
Willow Baltazar and their defense to leave Southern California with four conference points and 180 consecutive scoreless minutes. The clean sheet was CSUMB's third of the season, moving the Otters to 3-2-3 overall and 1-2-1 in CCAA play.
Baltazar was outstanding against a Cal Poly Pomona side that entered Sunday unbeaten. The senior goalkeeper stopped all eight shots on goal as the Broncos generated 21 total attempts. She made four saves in each half to preserve the draw.
CSUMB's best opportunity came early in the second half when
Ashleigh Carroll rattled the crossbar in the 53rd minute.
Juliana Dow followed with the Otters' lone shot on goal three minutes later, but her attempt was saved.
The Otter defense continued to hold firm down the stretch.
Chloe Van Winkle and
Bailey Rozier played all 90 minutes, while
Jordan Sawyer,
Shia Tulafono and
Annabelle Price also contributed to the clean sheet.
The performance completed an impressive road swing for CSUMB, which did not concede a goal across two CCAA matches in Southern California. Baltazar combined for 15 saves over the two shutouts, making seven against Cal State San Marcos and eight against Cal Poly Pomona.
CSUMB returns home having earned four of a possible six points on the trip and will host San Francisco State Thursday evening at Cardinale Stadium.
