Otters Finish Third, Earn Key Regional Wins

Big third round vaults Otters up leaderboard at The Hanny

April 14, 2026

TURLOCK, Calif. — A huge third round vaulted Cal State Monterey Bay to a third-place finish and a pair of big regional victories Tuesday as play concluded at The Hanny on the Turlock Golf and Country Club course.

CSUMB, ranked No. 7 in the West Region entering the week, rallied to earn head-to-head wins over the top two teams in the region: No. 1 Cal State East Bay and No. 2 Western Washington. WWU finished three strokes behind the Otters in fourth place while East Bay finished six back of CSUMB in sixth place.

The wins should set the Otters up well entering next week's CCAA Championship Tournament.

"Today we moved in the right direction," said CSUMB Head Coach Jason Owen. "As with any sport, you have highs and lows, but I believe we are going to peak at the right time."

Freshman Ben Christian (Dexter, Mo./Dexter Senior HS), who joined the Otters midseason from NCAA Division I Southern Indiana, led the charge up the leadboard with a final round 67 (-4) that included an eagle on the par 5 second hole. He finished at even par for the tournament in sixth place.

George Goff (Orlando, Fla./Gardner-Webb University), Alex Cooke (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) and Colin Huang (Corona Del Mar HS/Sonoma State) all earned Top 20 finishes for CSUMB. Goff went 3-under Tuesday and finished in 15th place at 4-over. Cooke finished 18th at 5-over. Huang, who eagled the par 4 first hole, placed 19th at 6-over.

Cal State San Bernardino and Chico State tied for the team title at 8-under. Chico's Vineet Vallamsetty earned medalist honors by finishing at 5-under.

CSUMB heads to Stockton to begin postseason play at the CCAA Championship Tournament Apr. 20-22 at The Reserve at Spanos Park. The Otters will be looking for their sixth CCAA title since 2010 and a 17th consecutive trip to the NCAA Regional Championship Tournament.
