ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's golf team opened play at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Monday with a solid first-round showing at Corica Park Golf Club. The Otters are in ninth among the 19-team field with a score of 14-over.
"Not our best effort today, we got off to a slow start, made up some ground and then gave a lot of strokes away at the end of the round," CSUMB head coach
Jim Ragan said. "Khivi hung in there and posted a solid 73. Hopefully, we can play better in the rain tomorrow."
Freshman
Khivi Kaur led the Otters with a one-over par 73 and sits tied for 17th after 18 holes. Kaur was steady throughout her round, carding a 38 on the front nine before turning in a one-under 35 on the back side. She highlighted her round with three birdies over her final nine holes to climb the leaderboard.
Both
Morgan Pittman and
Audrey Cheng finished tied for 27th after matching three-over par 75s. Pittman opened with a 35 on the front nine and added a 40 on the back, while Cheng posted a 36 on her opening nine before closing with a 39.
Senior
Cathy Tong contributed a seven-over 79, recording a 37 on the front and a 42 on the back nine, while
Esther Sheu rounded out the Otters' scoring five with an eight-over 80. Sheu turned in matching 40s across both nines to complete the team's opening round.
Competing as an individual,
Maisy Lu carded an 11-over 83, highlighted by a 41 on the front side.
The Otters will look to battle tough conditions tomorrow, teeing off at 7:30 a.m.
