SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State Monterey Bay senior golfer
Cathy Tong was named the FloCollege/CCAA Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced. Tong earns the accolade after finishing as the runner-up at the LA Spring Kickoff earlier this week.
Tong helped the Otters set the tone in their first tournament in 2026, finishing second as a squad at the Rio Hondo Golf Club.
The Hong Kong native was in the hunt the entire 54 holes, shooting under par in two of the three rounds to card a 2-under 214 for the two-day event on the strength of a tournament leading 14 birdies.
After opening the tournament at the par-72 course with a steady first round, Tong continued to build momentum over the final 36 to put together one of the most consistent performances of the week.
Round two marked a turning point as the senior posted her tournament-best 70 (-2). After an even-par 36 on the front, the momentum continued with a 34 coming home, including multiple birdies down the stretch.
The strong play carried into the third round, where she closed with a 71 (-1) to finish the Spring Kickoff on a high note, showcasing six birdies in the final 18. The honor was a career first for Tong.
The Otters will continue their spring slate at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout. The two-day tournament will begin on Monday, Feb. 23, at the Corica Park South Course.
