VISTA, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay men's completed play at its first spring tournament with an eighth-place finish at the Fujikura Invitational Tuesday at Shadow Ridge Country Club.

Junior Alex Cooke (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) was CSUMB's top finisher, placing 28th overall at 5-over 221, including a final-round 73. Freshman Kash Cantrell (Benton, Ill./Benton Consolidated HS) also earned a spot in the top half of the 75-player field by placing 34th at 6-over.

Newcomer Ben Christian (Dexter, Mo./Dexter Senior HS), a transfer from NCAA Division I member Southern Indiana, playing in his first tournament as an Otter, carded CSUMB's lone round in the red with a 1-under 71 Tuesday.

Tough conditions meant that no teams finished under par. Tournament champion Western Washington was the only team to finish at par for the 54-hole event. Host Cal State San Marcos placed second at 3-over.

CSUMB will take next week off before returning to action the Stockon Regional Preview Feb. 23-24 at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
