SEASIDE, CALIF. — Nevaeh Martinez, a standout softball player at Cal State Monterey Bay, chose this university for more than just its academic and athletic opportunities; she saw it as a chance to remain closely connected to her local community and family.

"As a family-oriented individual, staying close to my roots and being able to compete and study near home is a privilege," she said.

Martinez's journey as a student-athlete goes beyond the field; it's about the bonds she's forged with teammates who have become lifelong friends.
Her dedication to her sport and team culture has left an indelible mark on her collegiate experience.

One of Martinez's most cherished experiences was playing alongside senior players.
She observed their composure and maturity on the field, invaluable lessons that only experience can impart. Their influence has shaped her development as a player and teammate.

Looking ahead to her sophomore year, Martinez is eager to contribute to establishing a strong team culture and connection. She appreciates having a coach who encourages free competition and is enthusiastic about building a cohesive team environment.

"My goal is to be the most reliable player and teammate possible, always ready to step up when it counts," she said.

Beyond her college years, Martinez envisions a career in public relations or human resources.
She's excited about the prospect of applying her degree in these fields, whether for a company or an individual.

However, her passion for softball extends beyond her own playing days.
For the past four years, she has been coaching girls' softball, and she has a larger vision in mind. One of her significant aspirations is to open a softball training facility in Santa Cruz County.

This facility would provide young softball players in her community with accessible training opportunities and one-on-one coaching.

"I want to give back to the sport that's given me so much," she emphasized. "Empowering the next generation of athletes is my way of doing that."

Martinez's journey at Cal State Monterey Bay is not just about athletic achievements; it's about community connections, family ties, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of young athletes.
Her story is one of dedication, gratitude, and a vision for a brighter future both on and off the field.
