Otters Sweep Senior Day Spectacular

Seniors lead 11-3, 13-3 wins over Dominguez Hills

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay softball said farewell to its senior class in spectacular fashion by sweeping a pair of run-rule victories, 11–3 and 13–3, from Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

As was fitting, seniors led the way in helping the Otters finish .500 at 26–26, a 5 1/2 game improvement under first-year Head Coach Emily Montañez.

Seniors Summer Voth (Calabasas HS) and Savannah Madrigal (Simi Valley/Chaminade Prep) both threw complete games in the circle. For Voth, it was her first victory and her first decision in 19 collegiate appearances. Madrigal, meanwhile, earned her career-high 10th win of the season in the nightcap.

Playing in her final collegiate games, Emma Mendoza (Fountain Valley/Edison HS) went 5-for-5 in the doubleheader, scoring three times and driving in a pair with a double in Game 2. Ally Alcayaga (Sonoma Valley HS) went-2-for-4 with four runs and three RBI. Polishing off the big day for the seniors were Anastacia Alba (Watsonville HS), who had a pair of hits including a double, Oli Perez (Ceres HS) who hit safely in both games with a double, and Sofia Cervantes (Chico/St. Lucy's Priory), who scored a pair, drove in her first RBI and turned the game and season-ending double play that sealed the nightcap.

The Toros looked poised to run away with the opener when Kaylee Hull's 2-run double staked the them a 2–0 lead in the first. The lead last just three batters, however, as Abreanna Alba (Watsonville HS/Cabrillo College) tripled home her sister and Nevaeh Martinez (Soquel HS) single her in  two pitches later.

By the time the dust had settled on the first two innings, the Otters were up 9–2. Voth kept things quiet after the rocky first and held the Dominguez Hills bats at bay until Abreanna Alba was able to end the game with an RBI single in the fifth.

Mireya Rico's RBI double gave Dominguez Hills a first-inning lead again in Game 2. Again, the lead didn't last long. This time a 2-run double by Perez put CSUMB right back in front.

Rico gave Toro fans a glimmer of hope when her fifth homer of the season gave the Toros a 3–2 lead in the third. That hope proved to be just another illusion, however, as Abreanna Alba, Martinez and Mendoza hit back-to-back-to-back doubles leading off the home half of the third.

Junior Jackie Perales (Anaheim/Sunny Hills HS) capped the inning with a grand slam — her first collegiate home run — and the rout was on.

GAME 1 WAS OVER WHEN… Abreanna Alba's third homer of the season capped a 4-run Otter second, making it 9–2.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN… Jackie Perales's grand slam gave the Otters and 8–3 lead in the third inning.

FINISHING WITH A FLOURISH… The Otters finished the regular season with a doubleheader sweep for the sixth time in program history Saturday against Dominguez Hills. The last time they did it, they clinched the 2015 CCAA title with a sweep at Humboldt State.

A SERIES OF FORTUNATE EVENTS… The Otters finished the 4-game series with Dominguez Hills by scoring 30 total runs, the 12th most in a series in program history. The last time they reached 30 runs in a series came back in 2019 against Cal State East Bay, when they scored 32.

GAME 1 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Anastacia Alba (9). TRIPLES: Abreanna Alba (2). HOME RUNS: Abreanna Alba (3).

GAME 2 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Abreanna Alba (11), Nevaeh Martinez (14), Emma Mendoza (4), Oli Perez (9). TRIPLES: None. HOME RUNS: Jackie Perales (1).

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… Saturday's sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills concluded the 2025 Cal State Monterey Bay softball season.
