SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball standout
Ella Doherty (Powmill, Scotland / Kinross HS) has been selected to represent Great Britain at the FIBA Nations League tournament on the U23 3x3 team.
"It is always an honor to represent one's country," CSUMB head coach
Sarah Hopkins-Chery said. "We are excited to see Ella representing Great Britain once again in the U23 3x3 Nations League. Her dedication, work ethic, and competitive spirit continue to shine from the CCAA onto the international stage."
The Youth Nations League is an opportunity for the next generation of Great Britain's 3x3 programs to gain experience participating in an international competition at the highest level, and will promote the 3x3 game both domestically and abroad.
Great Britain's performances will earn significant ranking points for the national federation, which in turn determines the FIBA competitions the senior GB 3x3 teams can qualify for.
Doherty, an All-CCAA honorable mention selection, started all 23 games she played and paced the Otters with 12.8 points per game. She also recorded 5.4 rebounds per game and shot at a team-high 47-percent clip.
The Scotland native poured in 37 points against Lincoln University, which was the second-highest single-game scoring performance in program history.
Doherty recorded double-digits in points in 15 contests, including 12 in a row to begin her lone season in an Otter uniform. She recorded four 20-plus point performances and pulled down 10-or-more rebounds on three occasions.
The transfer from Toledo was twice named the CCAA Player of the Week, earning the accolade for her play on Nov. 11-17 and Dec. 9-15.
Hopkins-Chery coached Doherty on the U23 3x3 squad last summer and now will be at the helm of the Great Britain U20 team.
Coach Hopkins-Chery has been a part of the National Team programs for years as she is a former England U16, U20, and Senior player. She is at the helm of the U20 team that is playing at this summer's FIBA Youth EuroBasket tournament.
