Trio of Otters Named CSC Academic All-District

SEASIDE, Calif. – A trio of Cal State Monterey Bay baseball student-athletes earned spots on the Academic All-District team as selected by the College Sports Communicators. The organization recognized senior KW Quilici and juniors Andrew Kotin and Drew Aguiar

Quilici and Kotin will advance to the Academic All-America® ballot. That team will be released on July 1.

In order to be nominated for Academic All-District or Academic All-America® consideration, student-athletes must carry a minimum 3.50 grade point average and compete in at least 90 percent of a team's contests or start at least 66 percent of them.

Quilici showcased a 3.54 GPA in mathematics. The senior earned NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-America Honorable Mention accolades after being named the CCAA Player of the Year and also earn D2CCA and NCBWA All-Region honors.

The Alameda native ranked in the top five in the conference in nearly every offensive category, including leading the CCAA with 66 runs scored. He paced the team with a .384 average, 1.107 OPS, .642 slugging and .465 on-base percentages.
 
 The senior hit a team-high 13 home runs and added 15 doubles and 50 RBI. He was also perfect on the base paths, swiping eight bags in eight attempts.

Kotin earned his spot academically with a 3.80 GPA in kinesiology. The righthander ranked second in the CCAA with seven saves after posting a 3.42 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. 

The Irvine native struck out 22 in 23.2 innings and held opposing batters to a paltry .202 average. He recorded seven hitless outings in relief. 

Aguiar is majoring in communications and showcases the highest GPA on the squad that was eligible for CSC consideration with a 3.86. The Fair Oaks native was one of the top relievers in the league, posting a 2.12 ERA in a team-high 19 appearances.

Aguiar struck out 34 in 29.2 innings and recorded three saves. The righthander sported 13 scoreless appearances and three hitless outings. 

The Otters finished 39-19 on the season, making their third straight Super Regional appearance. The 39 wins equaled the program record.
