Björken, Berg von Linde Finish Top 20 In Desert

BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. — Seniors Simon Björken (Hudiksval, Sweden) and Wilhelm Berg von Linde (Stockholm, Sweden) both posted red numbers in Wednesday's final round to earn Top 20 finishes at the Battle in the Desert on the Rams Hill Golf Club course.

Björken carded six birdies while finishing 3-under for the day and 6-under for the tournament. He placed ninth overall for his second Top 10 finish of the season and the 15th of his career.

Berg von Linde went 1-under Wednesday to finish the 54-hole event at 2-under, good for a share of 13th place. George Goff (Orlando, Fla./Gardner-Webb Univ.) and Tommy Kimberling (Rancho Cucamonga/Los Osos HS) posted CSUMB's other scoring rounds Wednesday, finishing 1-over and 3-over respectively.

As a team, the Otters bounced back from a tough second round Tuesday to shoot even-par 288 in the final round. That lifted them to a fifth place finish overall. It marked their fifth Top 6 finish in six events this season.

Georgia Southwestern took the team title at an impressive 30-under. Stanislaus State, Univ. of Texas, Tyler, Cal State San Marcos and CSUMB rounded out the top five teams. Christopher Chomyn of Stanislaus State held off teammate Jack Peters in a playoff to earn medalist honors at 9-under.

The Otters will change desert locations over the weekend when they head north on I-15 for the Desert Classic Mar. 2–4 at the Boulders Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nev.
