KOHALA COAST, Hawaii. — A big birdie from senior Colin Huang (Newport Beach/Corona Del Mar HS) in a 1-hole playoff helped propel Cal State Monterey Bay to victory at the Dennis Rose Men's Golf Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Mauna Lani Resort.

The win marked CSUMB's third win at the event. The Otters also captured Dennis Rose titles in 2010 and 2015.

CSUMB's other four players all recorded pars on the playoff hole to outlast host Hawaii-Hilo, which posted three pars and a pair of bogeys. The Vulcans had scrambled back from three strokes down to start the day before the Otter put them away on the 55th hole.

"This was a great way to end the fall season," said CSUMB Head Coach Jason Owen. "We have one senior and the rest are technically freshmen and sophomores. They are growing and learning each week."

The Otters had to battle through treacherous conditions on the Big Island Tuesday, with winds topping 25 miles per hour. Host Hawaii-Hilo used its home island advantage force the playoff, shooting 299 Tuesday to CSUMB's 302.

Colorado Christian matched UHH's final-round 299 but still finished four strokes back. The University of Missouri-St. Louis put up a 311 Tuesday and finished a distant fourth, 15 strokes behind the Otters.

Grand Canyon University transfer Alex Cooke (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) carded a 3-over 75 Tuesday to earn a share of second place at even-par 216 for the tournament. He was one of only four golfers to finish the event at or under par.

Gardner-Webb University transfer George Goff (Orlando, Fla.) earned his third Top 10 finish in four events this season by placing seventh at 3-over. Freshman Kash Cantrell (Benton, Ill./Benton Consolidated HS) claimed his first collegiate Top 10 finish by placing 10th at 6-over.

Sophomore Simon Germain (Lyon, France) and Huang also played in the top half of the 59-golfer field by tying for 23rd.

The Dennis Rose Invitational concludes the fall portion of the Otters' 2025-26 season. They'll return to action at the Fujikura Invitational, hosted by Cal State San Marcos, Feb. 9-10. Owen is looking forward to what's ahead for his young charges.

"I'm confident that we will take this winter break to improve in many areas," said Owen. "I look forward to what the spring has in store for us."
