SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay track & field team had a busy weekend as they competed at the Stanford Invitational and the Mike Fanelli Classic.
"The weather was atrocious and unrelenting, yet the teams stepped up and threw out some impressive performances," head coach
Greg Rhines said. "In spite of a 10 p.m. 5k start time, a lighting delay, and a flooded track, personal bests were still awarded, very impressive!"
STANFORD INVITE
Taylar Yost took advantage of a competitive field to run a season-best in the 400m hurdles. Against the likes of Pac-12 powers Stanford and Washington, Yost clocked a 65.53 in the wet and windy conditions.
MIKE FANELLI CLASSIC
The Otters shined in the steeple as the squad had three top-30 finishes.
Mackenzie Caprino clocked a 11:33.79 to finish 24
th overall.
Lisa Irvine closely followed with an 11:37.19.
Cozette Wood ran a PR of 11:46.00.
After running the 400m hurdles on Friday, Yost bounced back the next day to compete in another grueling race – the 800m, and clocked a personal best of 2:25.
On the men's side, Luis Contreras and William Trowbridge clocked personal bests in the 3,000m steeple. In a deep field, Contreras placed 38
th with a 10:14.60 and Trowbridge followed in 39
th at 10:24.15.
In the 5,000m, Alex Fernandes clocked a PR with a time of 15:09.64.
The CSUMB track & field team will return to the oval on Saturday, April 6, as the Otters will head to Cal to compete in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational.
