SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State Monterey Bay senior utilityman
Nico Hartojo has been selected as the NCBWA West Region Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.
Hartojo slashed .714/.684/1.357 for an impressive 2.041 OPS to lead the Otters to a four-game series sweep over Stanislaus State. He batted 10-for-14, with three doubles and two home runs, drove in 11 runs, and scored six times to lead the potent CSUMB offense. Hartojo also walked once without striking out, was hit by a pitch twice and had two sacrifice flies.
The senior second baseman from Arvada, Colo., had three three-hit games during the series. After opening the weekend with a 3-for-4 game on Friday, Hartojo was 4-for-6 with six RBI, a double and two homers in Saturday's doubleheader. He went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer in the first game and followed it with another two-run shot in the nightcap.
Hartojo, a preseason All-American pick, has gone 13-for his last 17 at-bats to improve his batting average by 155 points to .350. He is now 10th in the CCAA with a .432 batting average during conference games.
Cal State Monterey Bay, winners of 10 of their last 11 games, improved to 17-7 overall and 13-3 in the CCAA. The Otters travel to take on second place Cal State San Marcos (13-8, 12-4 CCAA) this week.
