Memorable Moments Poll – Winter Edition

Survey to determine 2022-23’s top moment continues with winter sports

August 02, 2023

SEASIDE, Calif. — Our 2022–23 Otter Athletics Memorable Moments Poll got off to a tightly contested start last week. After choosing from six worthy contenders amongst the fall sports, we have five more moments for your consideration for the Most Memorable Moment of 2022–23 Cal State Monterey Bay winter sports seasons.

The top moment from this poll — as well as those from last week's fall poll and next week's spring sports poll — will face off to determine the Otter Sports Most Memorable Moment of 2022–23. The winning moment will be announced week of August 14.

We continue our look back this week by presenting the top moments from the winter sports season in Otter Athletics.

November 18, 2022: Pointer, Shaw Lead Huge Comeback Win In Fresno
Down by 18 in the second half, the Otter women closed with a 36–17 run to defeat Fresno Pacific, 64–63. Senior Lauryn Pointer scored 22 of her career-high 27 during the Otters second half surge, while Sarah Shaw posted her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The win lifted the Otters to 3–0 on the season, their best start since 2013.

November 18, 2022: Wall's Double–Double Leads Otters Past Nanooks
The Otter men went down to the wire with Alaska Fairbanks in their home opener. Down by one with 22 seconds remaining, Jailen Nelson found Levi Frankland outside the perimeter with space in front. Frankland took two dribbles before splashing home a 15 foot jumper with 12.8 ticks left. On the ensuing Nanook possession, Nelson slid in front of his driving defender and set his feet to take a charge, sealing the 80–77 Otter victory. Joe Wall was the Otters offensive star, with 25 points on 6-of-7 shooting from three, and 10 rebounds.

December 19, 2022: Wall Catches Fire As Otters Pull Away From Gators, 73–52
Joe Wall tied a 10-year-old record by splashing home eight 3–pointers in a 73–52 shellacking of San Francisco State. Wall started his day oh–for–5 from beyond the arc before connecting on 8 of his next 9 3–point attempts, helping the Otters to their first CCAA win of the season. He finished with a game–high 28 points.

January 21, 2023: Otters Explode For 93 Points To Down Stanislaus
The Otter women broke the 90–point mark for the first time in nearly a decade with a 93-63 victory over Stanislaus State. Amelia Smith, Jordan Beaumont, and Gabby Kime reached career-high point totals. Mikayla Mabie tied Alma Lopez's 15–year school record with 11 assists.

January 28, 2023: Aussies Send Jacks Down Under, Men Win Fifth Straight
In the heart of conference play, the Otter rattled off five straight wins, for their longest winning streak since 2008. They needed every player an 82–80 nailbiter at Cal Poly Humboldt. All five starters scored in double figures in the victory, headlined by a 25–point outpouring from Levi Frankland and a 13–point 14–rebound double-double from Charles Johnston
