Survey to determine the most memorable moments from 2022-23 begins

SEASIDE, Calif. — 2022–23 provided Cal State Monterey Bay fans with an abundance of memories that won't soon be forgotten. Last second victories, historic upsets, records broken and championships won made the year that was amongst the greatest in otter history.
 
But which moment was the biggest of them all? That's for you, the fan, to decide in our 2022–23 Memorable Moments Poll. You'll help determine the answer to that question over the next four weeks, culminating in the announcement of the moment of the year the week of August 14.
 
We'll present for your consideration a selection of the best achievements in a spectacular Otter Athletics year. We'll kick things off by taking a look at some of the many highlights from the fall sports seasons…


 
 
September 10, 2022: Otters Win a Match for the Ages
Behind two sets to one to 10th ranked Cal State San Bernardino, the Otters took the final two sets to down the Yotes for the first time in program history. It also marked the first time ever that the Otters defeated a Top-10 opponent. Lauren Reeves led the Otters with 17 kills, while Kaylie Honberger added 10 kills and 16 digs. Setter Ashley Vanderpan's kill on match point started the celebration.

September 17, 2022: Otter Women Christen Palo Corona With Team Victory
CSUMB Women's Cross Country ran the first ever collegiate race held at the Palo Corona Cross Country Trail in style, holding off CCAA foes Cal State San Bernardino and San Francisco State to win the CCAA Preview Meet. Sophomore Lisa Irvine placed second overall to lead three Otters in the top five and six in the top 10. 
 
October 15, 2022: Records Fall As Otters Conclude Regular Season
In its final meet of the regular season, the otter men's cross country team raced into the postseason in record–breaking fashion at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational. Sophomore Jaime Gonzalez led the way by shattering the program 8K record with a time of 24:28.1. Fellow sophomore Nathan Garcia wasn't far behind, running the seventh fastest 8K time in program history at 24:52.7. 
 
October 18, 2022: Björken Earns Title, Otters Finish Second
Sophomore Simon Björken wasted no time putting up one of the most memorable moments of the Otter men's golf season at the Otter Invitational. Björken went 67, 69, 69 to win the tournament with a record–breaking score of 11–under 205. This score also broke the Otter Invitational record low of 208 set back in 2016.
 
Björken led the Otters to a second place finish in a field that featured eight team ranked in the Top 25.

October 23, 2022: Otters Are Postseason Bound After Win At Chico
After a 15 year drought, the Otter men's soccer team clinched its first CCAA Tournament berth with a 1–0 victory at Chico. Roberto Banegas scored in the 15th minute, while the Otter backline denied any hopes of an equalizer from the Wildcats, who were unable to muster up a single shot in the second half. 

October 27, 2022: Eight Is Enough For Otters In Season–Ending Rout Of Toros
In the season finale versus Cal State Dominguez Hills, the Otter women's soccer team exploded for eight goals, tying the record in an 8–0 shutout of the Toros. Nayeli Sandoval Gallo became just the third player Otter women's soccer history to score a hat trick by finding the back of the net three times in the first 30 minutes. Amelia McManus distributed a program–record three assists in the match.
