SEASIDE, Calif. —
Sophomore attacker Shelby Fortune (San Diego/Patrick Henry HS) wrote her name in the history book by becoming just the fourth player in Cal State Monterey Bay water polo history to earn first team All–America honors as selected by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Friday.

Fortune was a first team All–Western Water Polo Association selection in 2023. She also earned first team All–WWPA Championship Tournament honors after leading the Otters to a second place finish, the best in program history.

She was a member of the WWPA All–Freshman team in 2022.

Fortune finished the 2023 season ranked amongst the Otter leaders in a bushelful of statistical categories, including leading the team in goals (47) and points (57). She also led the team by winning 15 sprints and finished second amongst field players with 20 steals.

"We are extremely proud of Shelby. She worked really hard this year and was a huge contributor to our accomplishments this season," says CSUMB Head Coach Emily Schmit. "This All–American recognition is well earned."

Despite just completing her sophomore season, Fortune already ranks No. 15 on the CSUMB career goals scored list with 71. Her 92 points rank No. 18 and her 37 drawn exculsions rank No. 19.
