SAN MARCOS, CALIF. –
The CCAA Track and Field Championships came to an end Saturday, with the Otters finishing ninth overall after scoring in three events on the final day.

Hurdles specialist Taylar Yost (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield HS) had the strongest performance of the day for the Otters, breaking her own school record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.90. This broke her previous record by 0.04 seconds, set back on 4/21 at the Mustang Invitational in San Luis Obispo. Yost placed sixth in the event, picking up three points for the Otters.

Also scoring three points for the Otters was Angelee Berganio (Santa Clarita/Canyon HS), who improved on yesterday's 800m PR in the prelims by 0.17 seconds, finishing with a time of 2:17.84. It was the first time that Berganio broke the 2:18 mark in her career, as she was just 0.2 seconds off of breaking the program record of 2:17.64 set by Hannah Bell in 2015.

The final scoring party of the day for the Otters was the 4x400m team of Berganio, Kayla Young (Santa Clarita/Canyon HS), Yost and Mina Tsai (San Jose/Santa Teresa HS). This group placed seventh overall in the relay finals, with the third fastest time in program history of 4:05.20.

Also in competition today for the Otters, Mina Tsai ran the fifth fastest 100m in program history at 12.53, Kseniya Nikanorov (Castle Park, Colo./Castle View HS) placed 11th in the 5000m finals, and Cierra Verdone (Hughson/Cabrillo College) hit a big PR of 10.22m (33-6.25) in the triple jump.

Factoring in Mackenzie Caprino's (South Salem HS) third place finish in yesterday's 3000m steeplechase final, the Otters tallied 16 team points at the event, tying them for a ninth place overall finish with Cal State East Bay.

"I am so proud of this team!" stated Head Coach Greg Rhines. "These young women work so hard each and every day, and it sure pays off. They are a small team, but they pack a punch!"
