Gasper Named CCAA's Top Pitcher For 2023

Cassie Gasper becomes third Otter hurler to win the award

SEASIDE, Calif. -- Cal State Monterey Bay senior righty Cassie Gasper (Merced College/Univ. of Missouri) took top honors as the 2023 CCAA Pitcher of the Year as voted on by the conference coaches Tuesday evening.

Gasper is the third Otter ever to win the award, joining Diane Ortiz (2010) and Cori Reinhardt (2015). She earned first team All-CCAA recognition as well.

"Cassie epitomizes greatness. She is a diligent worker in the classroom and on the field," says CSUMB Head Coach Andrea Kenney. "She is a great leader and a fierce competitor. She is more than worthy of this honor and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to coach her."

Gasper finished the regular season leading the league in strikeouts for the second time in three seasons, this time with a CSUMB-record 161. She also finished amongst the league leaders in wins (17), ERA (1.39) and opponent batting average (.195).

Her ERA is an Otter record and her opponent batting average is second only to the .195 mark set by Ortiz during her star turn in 2010.

Gasper will lead the Otters into the postseason Wednesday when they face Cal State Dominguez Hills in the opening round of the CCAA Tournament at Toro Diamond in Carson. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
